A sex tape started to be circulated widely online in September of 2009 which featured Nepali actress, dancer and model Namrata Shrestha having sex with a Nepal DJ, Chris Sutula, more popularly known as DJ Tantrik, who is married to another woman.
The steamy video was subsequently found by the wife of DJ Tantrik. She took the video to Maiti Nepal, a woman’s right advocate in Nepal, seeking her husband’s formal and sincere apology on the incident.   It is not known how or who leaked the video onto the internet. The sex tape video itself was filmed on a cell phone. The timing of the leaked sex tape was believed to have been made to deliberately coincide with the release of Shrestha’s new 2009 film “Mero Euta Saathi Chha”.

 

Perhaps one of the most controversial aspects of the Namrata Shrestha/DJ Tantrik scandal was the attitude shown by Namrata Shrestha. Instead of being ashamed or embarassed, Shrestha just shrugged the whole issue and was not at all apologetic/concerned, especially as the sex depicted was with a married man.6 The Nepali press reported that Shrestha’s attitude was reflecting a change in Nepalese women’s attitudes towards sex and a move towards more westernized thinking. This change in attitude is being led by the Nepal/Nepali entertainment industry.
Namrata Shrestha is most well known in Nepal for her role in the romantic movie ‘Sano Sansar’, which was released in 2008.7 Namrata Shrestha is frequently ranked as a supermodel in Nepal, consistently being one of the top 5 models in the entire country. Shrestha has also featured in a large number of music videos in Nepal. Shrestha has also featured on the cover of various magazines such as Wave Magazine, Vow Magazine and a number of others.
